Burning Calories

Last weekend we took advantage of the happy combination of a slight improvement in temperature, a bit of snow on the ground, and an inability to find anything better to do, and went camping. As usual, Kenrick, Anthony and I had a great time with the normal hearty crew; Don, Andy, Doug and Trevon, Bruce, and of course our Fearless Organizer, Eldon. Dinner was already cooking by the time we rolled in. On the grill: Canadian moose steaks and brats, Illinois venison, taters, baked beans, green beans, and some kind of double-chocolate layered cake that Don brewed up in his Dutch Oven. Stuffed.
Temperatures held in the mid twenties all night and we were nicely protected from the wind. Which was critical, since a keen observer would notice that my tent is more of the summer variety than a winter one. No matter, the boys and I were cozy.
Trevon contended that sleeping in a tent was "cheating", and in past years I've done as everyone else and just slept under the stars, but this year I felt like I wanted a little extra protection.

Anyway, I slept in, and woke up to the smell of bacon. Our traditional breakfast consists mainly of bacon, with eggs poached in the left over bacon fat and a little orange juice to wash it all down. And good strong coffee for those of us old enough to have some.

Don and Andy keep a close eye on Master Breakfast Chef Bruce.
Thanks again Eldon for another successful and calorie-filled Adventure.
