Spring!

So, we're celebrating the first day of spring by lounging around in our pajamas with our blankets, books and hot coffee and watching the snow fall.  Two inches of wet stuff!  Ugh.

Actually, the lounging on my part is mostly in recovery from this morning's activity - a three-hour orienteering event in Jubilee Park. I agreed to do the event with one of my buddies from work before looking at the forcast, but the beautiful spring weather on Thursday and Friday made it hard to believe that snow was on the way.  Guess I should have believed.

Part of the fun of racing throught the forest in search of the elusive orange markers is battling the mud and brush and occasional precipitation, but this morning's 35 degrees and big fluffy flakes made it especially challenging. And we did something a little different today. Usually there is a 3-4 mile course set up and you have to hit all the points on the course as fast as possible, but today we were scored by how many points we could find in a three-hour time period.  The points were scattered from one end to the other of the 3200-acre park, so you have to choose your targets wisely. Finish late and you don't get scored.  We stumbled back to the starting point in two hours, forty-seven minutes after getting mis-directed early on, backtracking a few times in the middle, and completely lost later. When I got home, Andrea asked how many points we had found.  Not enough.

But a good time was had by both, we made it home, and now the kids are out throwing snowballs at each other.  I think I'll stand by the window and drink my coffee and watch.
