Out With The Old, In With The Cold

So the beginning of a new decade brings some observations and some oddities:

For the first time in a while the third working day of the year finds me, well, working. As opposed to driving home from Idaho. Or trying to drive home through another Wyoming blizzard. Being able to relax for a few days after our trip to Boston made Monday feel almost normal.

Now I'm sitting cozy at home while our first snow of the year starts to pile up on top of the last snow of 2009. The temperature is hovering close to zero again and the snow is falling like a fine mist and we may get to sleep in tomorrow morning if the forecast holds true.

Though we can't see the future, we do know that Andrea soon won't be pregnant any more. She can't wait to be able to move normally, we both can't wait to see what little Miss Pandemonium will look like.

I've got a baby's room to finish up before February.

Yesterday I saw a combine driving down the road and tonight someone said they saw one in a field harvesting corn. In January. In the snow. Weird. What a year the farmers had in 2009.

And for the first time ever, all my college football teams won in postseason play. Idaho knocked off Bowling Green in a minor bowl game, Boise State beat the Texas Christian Big Heads in the Fiesta Bowl and went 14-0, Ohio State won the Rose Bowl (not really my team, but Big 10 conference on the Big Stage - Go Ohio State!) against Oregon, and just last night Iowa stuffed the high powered Georgia Tech offense in a 24-14 win at the Orange Bowl. Awesome.

A couple of interesting notes: Boise State joined the 2002 Ohio State Buckeyes as the only teams to go 14-0 in college football history. Iowa won its first major bowl game since 1959.
